The Nepali under-23 football squad, currently on tour in

Bangladesh, defeated the Bangladesh U-23 side 1-0 in a friendly match at the Sylhet District Stadium in Sylhet, Bangladesh, on Friday.

Sushil KC struck the solitary goal in the 79th minute to finish the two-match SS Steel International Friendly even, the Bangladesh U-23 having won the first match 1-0 in Dhaka on Tuesday, August 26.

The matches were part of a preparatory series between the two teams for the upcoming 17th Asian Games scheduled to be held Incheon, South Korea, from September 19.

The football matches will start five days before the inaugural ceremony, on September 14.

In the Asiad, Nepal faces defending champion Japan, and former winner Iraq, and Kuwait in Group D.

The Nepali football team has so played in five Asiads but has not even managed a draw yet.

Nepal will play Iraq on September 14, Kuwait on 17 and Japan on September 21. Altogether 29 countries are participating in football competitions.

India hammer Pakistan by seven wickets in their World T20 opener

India kept their unbeaten record against Pakistan in World Cups intact as MS Dhoni & Co put up an all-round show to beat the archrivals by seven wickets in a one-sided match of the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 at Mirpur.

The 2007 champions restricted Pakistan to a modest 130 for 7 in the match that opened the Super10 stage of the fifth edition of World T20. It was largely due to India's spin trio of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra, as Dhoni decided to go in with an extra spinner in place of Ajinkya Rahane.

The Indian tweakers got a lot of purchase from the wicket and weren't easy for the Pakistan batsmen to get away, especially towards the back end of the innings. Mishra led the way with figures of 2 for 22, followed by Jadeja who took 1 for 18. Ashwin was economical at 0 for 23.

Shikhar Dhawan (30) and Rohit Sharma (24) then provided a solid 54-run foundation to set up the run-chase. Pakistan, however, threatened to make a comeback when they removed Dhawan, Rohit and Yuvraj Singh (1) in the space of 11 runs to restrict India to 65 for 3 in the 11th over.

Dhawan and Rohit began cautiously but then picked up the scoring rate to get India off to a solid start. Dhawan was the first to depart after bringing up the fifty stand. He was dismissed by Gul. Rohit fell 10 runs later, bowled by Saeed Ajmal. Paceman Bilawal Bhatti made it three quick strikes when he bowled Yuvraj off the first ball of his spell.

However, Suresh Raina (35*) and Virat Kohli (36*) counter-attacked brilliantly to make Pakistan's total look poorer by at least 35 to 40 runs. They added 66 runs for the fourth wicket and remained unseparated to take India home with nine balls to spare.

Earlier, Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl wary of the evening dew at Mirpur. Against the growing talks of Rahane as an opener, Dhoni benched the middle-order batsman for an extra bowler in the form of Mishra.

It paid rich dividends as Mishra opened his spell with a wicket maiden before coming back to break a threatening 50-run partnership between Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal. The leggie dismissed Malik for 18.

However, it was a run-out that gave India the first breakthrough, when a huge mix-up between openers Kamran Akmal (8) and Ahmed Shehzad saw the former getting run out off Bhuvneshwar Kumar's direct hit. A 35-run partnership between Shehzad and skipper Mohammad Hafeez followed, but it was ended by Jadeja who, like Mishra, struck in his first over to remove Hafeez for 15.

Shehzad (22) fell five balls later to give a concerned look to the scorecard at 47 for 3, after which Malik and Umar stitched a 50-run stand. But once that was broken, Pakistan lost their way and could never recover in the death overs.

A lot was expected of Afridi but he could score just 8, and it was only due to a late surge provided by Sohaib Maqsood (21 off 11 balls) that helped Pakistan touched 130.

India captain MS Dhoni: "We dropped a couple of catches so that would be the only reason why it wasn't the perfect display. We got off to a good start with the bat which was important even though it was quite a low-scoring game. Suresh Raina backs himself to play the big shots but he's also very calculated. With him around it gives us the firepower in the middle order and the fact he's a left-hander is good too."


Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez: "After watching a couple of overs we could see it was not coming on to the bat. We were still looking at 140-plus but we were 20 runs short. In a low-scoring game we needed to take all of our catches. There are some positives and there is a long way to go."



India spinner Amit Mishra wins the man-of-the-match award: "I did lots of hard work for that, I'm really happy we won the match. I always think if you take a wicket you are building pressure so I am always thinking wickets. MS (Dhoni) gives me lots of support and says whatever you want let me know."
So there we have it, India begin the tournament with a convincing victory over their arch-rivals. Virat Kohli (36 not out) and Suresh Raina (35 not out) put on 66 runs to seal victory for MS Dhoni's side.

Nepal vs UAE T20 warm-up on at Fatullah

KATHMANDU: The national cricket team will play two warm-up matches, against Ireland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), ahead of their maiden ICC World Twenty20 appearance in Bangladesh in March.

Nepal will meet Ireland in a day/night match Fatullah on March 12 which is also going to be the first encounter between the two sides in any format of senior cricket. After a day rest, Nepal meet the UAE for a day match at the same venue.

Nepal will begin their ICC World Twenty20 campaign with the Group A match against Hong Kong on March 16 before playing hosts Bangladesh on March 18. They will finish the preliminary round with the match against Afghanistan on March 20. Only the winner of the group will join the top eight Test playing nations in the second round.

Nepal are making their first ever appearance in the ICC World Twenty20 after finishing third

in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers held in November last year at the UAE. Nepal had defeated the hosts to finish third in the tournament.

Nepal looks forward to a thrilling year in cricket

The country looks to build on unprecedented success in key 2014 international tournaments.

Nepal hopes to cap its most glorious year in cricket with a strong showing in its first appearance at the 2014 ICC Twenty20 World Cup starting in March in Bangladesh.

Sharad Vesawakar's thrilling last ball win over Hong Kong in an ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier match in Abu Dhabi on November 27th, 2013 both catapulted the team to the World Cup and legions of its fans into euphoria.

"It was one of the happiest moments of my life," Vesawakar told Khabar South Asia. "I am looking forward to the newer and tougher challenges along with opportunities this victory has brought to us."

Nepal, one of eight countries in the Group Stage, will initially play in Hong Kong, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Fans are excited no matter what: they mobbed players during the December 4th victory rally in Kathmandu.

"It is the greatest achievement of Nepal in any sport. I have been following Nepalese cricket since my childhood and it was always a dream to see Nepal in the World Cup. It's a dream come true for every Nepalese," spectator Bishal Kafle told Khabar.

Raja Dhungana, a Masters candidate in Public Health in Dhaka, eagerly anticipates the World Cup.

"I will definitely not miss this glorious opportunity of watching Nepal play the World Cup. I will undoubtedly book the tickets for Chittagong," he said. "There are about 5,000 Nepali students here in Bangladesh and we are going to rock the stadium."

The victory also reinvigorated the government's interest in promoting and growing the sport.

"One major achievement is that the government has become proactive regarding the development of cricket. It has asked the association to come up with the short-term and long-term strategies for the development of Nepali," Surya Thapaliya, advisor to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), told Khabar.

Nepal will also participate in the 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand beginning January 13th, which according to Thapaliya, is even more important as the top two teams advance to the 2015 Cricket World Cup. The top four earn One Day International (ODI) status, eligible to play in and host ODI matches.

"If we get the status, it will be a huge achievement for us. It will mean more investment for Nepali cricket by national and international agencies," Thapaliya said. "We will be able to build a new stadium, enhance our team's capabilities and retain the government's priority for cricket."

फूटबलमा त्यति जम्न नसके पनि नेपालमा क्रिकेट खेलमा महिलाहरु पनि उत्तिकै सिपालु भैसकेका छन् । राष्ट्रिय तथा अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय क्रिकेट म्याचमा नेपाली चेलीहरुले उत्कृष्ट खेल प्रदर्शन गर्दै पदक र शिल्ड पाइरहेकै छन् । अरु केही खेलमा पनि नेपाली महिलाहरुको उपस्थिति राम्रो छ । तर, राजधानी र शहरमा खेलकूदको जति नै हल्ला चले पनि गाउँका विद्यालयमा भने पर्याप्त खेल सामग्री नहुँदा भविश्यका खेलाडीहरु आपसमा तानातान गरेर मनोरञ्जन गरिरहेका छन् ।

पछि राम्रो खेलाडी बन्न सानैदेखि त्यस खेलप्रति रुची हुनुपर्छ । स्कूल छँदादेखि नै क्रिकेटमा रुची भयो भने पछि राम्रो खेलाडी बन्न सकिन्छ । यस्तै फूटबल, बास्केटबल, टेनिस, हाइजम्प लगायतका खेलमा पनि सानैदेखि यस्तै रुची र झुकाव हुनुपर्छ । तर, विद्यालयमा आवश्यक स्रोत, साधनको अभावमा सबै बालबालिकाले आफूलाई मनपर्ने खेल खेल्न पाएका छैनन् ।

धादिङ, चरिमारेटारको नलाङ मावि गाउँकै निकै पुरानो हाइस्कुल हो । यस विद्यालयमा तीन सयभन्दा बढी विद्यार्थी पढ्छन् । फुर्सदका बेला अरु विद्यालयका विद्यार्थीलाई जस्तै उनीहरुलाई पनि खेल्न मन पर्छ । तर, गाउँमा अरुले जे खेलेको देख्यो, त्यही खेल खेल्ने उनीहरुलाई बानी परेको छ ।

विद्यालयका अधिकांश छात्र फूटबल खेल्न मन पराउँछन् । तर, छात्रा भने फूटबल खेल्दैनन् । केटीहरु दुईतिर बराबरी हुने गरी बाँडिएर कम्मरमा समातेर एकअर्कातिर तान्छन् । जसले अर्को समूहको सदस्य बढी तान्न सक्यो, उसकै जीत । यस्तो खेललाई उनीहरु ‘डुम’ खेलको संज्ञा दिन्छन् । यस्तो खेल राष्ट्रिय स्तरमा खेलिँदैन र शायद यो जातीय छुवाछुतको मनोविज्ञानमा आधारित खेल पनि हो ।

किन क्रिकेट, भलिबलजस्ता खेलमा रुची नभएको ? यस्तो प्रश्नमा छात्राहरुले भन्छन्-’क्रिकेट खेल्न जानेकै छैन, सबैलाई पुग्ने गरी स्कूलमा भलिबल छैन, डूम खेल्न बल पनि चाहिएन, जान्नु पनि परेन ।’

दशरथ रंगशालमा अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय रेस्लिङ महाभिडन्त २०७० भएको छ । दशरथ रंगशालाको कभर्ड हलमा सुरु भएको रेस्लिङमा अमेरिका, जापान र नेपाली खेलाडीहरुको सहभागिता लिएका थिए । उक्त भिडन्तमा मुख्य महाभिडन्त नेपालका एकमात्र अन्तर्राष्टिय रेस्लर दि भरतबहादुर विशुराल (हिमालयन टाइगर) र अमेरिकाका द ग्रेट मालाकाईको रहेको छ । त्यो टिम विरुद्ध भिडन्त जापानको जिरोवान रेस्लिङ कम्पनीबाट आउने मिस्टर वाकाताका र नाओकी उइदाबीच भिडन्त भएको थियो । महाभिडन्तमा नेपालका तर्फबाट हिक्मत थपलिया (दस्कोरपिन), भगत राई(द तातीम), महेश कोजु (मिस्टर कोजु), सन्जीब बज्र शाक्य (द बज्र) ले भाग लिएका थिए, भने रेफ्रीको भूमिकामा नेपालकै पहिलो महिला रेफ्री सुश्री सुनिता थापा र जिरो वान रेस्लिङ कम्पनीका सि.इ.ओ समेत रहेका योशी युकी नाकामुरा रहेको थियो ।

नेपाली क्रिकेट टोली आज भारत जाने

१० जेठ, काठमाडौं । ३१ औं अल इन्डिया उत्तराखण्ड गोल्डकप क्रिकेट खेल्ने नेपाली क्रिकेट टोली आज भारतको देहरादुन जाँदैछ । युवा कप्तान पृथु बाँस्कोटाको कप्तानी तथा विनोद दासको प्रशिक्षणमा रहेको नेपाली टोली आज धनगढी हुँदै भारत जानेछ ।

नेपाल क्रिकेट संघ क्यान ११ को नामले खेल्ने नेपाली टोलीमा डिभिजन थ्री जितेको राष्ट्रिय टोलीका कप्तान पारस खड्कासहितका ८ खेलाडी टोलीमा हुने छैनन् । पारससँगै ज्ञानेन्द्र मल्ल, वसन्त रेग्मी क्यानडामा क्लब क्रिकेट खेल्न जाने तयारीमा छन् भने शरद भेसवाकर, राहुल विक र सुवास खकुरेल सामान्य चोटका कारण आराममा छन् ।

यस्तै अमृत भट्टराई र सञ्जम रेग्मीलाई भने टोलीमा समावेश नगरिएको क्यानले जनाएको छ । १६ टोलीको सहभागीता रहेको प्रतियोगितामा विजेता टोलीले १ लाख ५० हजार तथा उपविजेताले १ लाख भारतीय रुपैंया पुरस्कार पाउने छन् । नेपालले पहिलो खेल मे २६ मा एयर इन्डियासंग खेल्नेछ । नेपाल रहेको समुहमा आएनजिसी, एयर इन्डिया र केजिके जयपुर रहेका छन् ।

यू-१९ विश्वकप खेल्ने नेपालको सपना अधुरै

सेमिफाइनलमा युएईसँग ७६ रनले पराजित
२७ वैशाख, काठमाडौं । नेपाल एसीसी यू-१९ एलिट कपको सेमिफाइनलबाटै बाहिरिएको छ । यससँगै नेपालको यू-१९ विश्वकप खेल्ने सम्भावना सकिएको छ ।

आयोजकको हैसियतमा युएईले विश्वकप खेल्ने भएकाले फाइनलमा पुगेसँगै अफगानिस्तानले अर्को वर्ष हुने आइसिसी यु १९ विश्वकप क्रिकेट खेल्न पाउने भएको छ । नेपालले भने अब तेस्रो स्थानका लागि मलेशियासँग खेल्नेछ ।

शुक्रबार मलेशियामा भएको सेमिफाइनलमा नेपाल युएईसँग ७६ रनले पराजित भयो । समूह चरणमा उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन गरेपनि सेमिफाइनलमा युएईसविरुद्ध व्याटिङ र बलिङ दुबै नचल्दा नेपालको विश्पकप खेल्ने सपना अधुरै रहृयो ।

युएईले प्रस्तुत गरेको २ सय ७२ रनको लक्ष्य पछ्याएको नेपालले ४६ दशमलव १ ओभरमा सबै विकेट गुमाएर १ सय ९५ रन मात्र बनाउन सक्यो । नेपालका लागि हरिशंकर साहले ५२ र कप्तान भुवन कार्कीले ४१ रन जोड्नु बाहेक अन्य व्याट्सम्यान चलेनन् ।

निर्मल थापाले २३, अभिनाश कर्णले १९ र अमित श्रेष्ठले १२ रन जोड्दा पवन श्रेष्ठ, ८, प्रेम तामाङ ६, सुसान्त भारी ४, योग्यमान कुमाल ४ र विभत्सु थापा ३ रनमा आउट भए । ओपनर निश्चल पाण्डे पहिलो विकेटका रुपमा शुन्य रनमै पेभेलियन फर्किएका थिए । नेपाललाई सस्तैमा समेट्ने क्रममा डन डिसुजाले ४ विकेट लिए ।

यसअघि पहिले व्याटिङ गरेको युएईले निर्धारित ५० ओभरमा ७ विकेटको क्षतिमा २ सय ७१ रन बनाएको थियो । ३२ रन जोड्दा ३ विकेट गुमाइसकेको उसको पारी मध्यक्रमका ब्याट्सम्यानले सम्हालेका थिए ।

शोराइ चोपडा र डन डिसुजाले चौथो विकेटका लागि १ सय ७१ रनको साझेदारी गरे । चोपरा १ सय १४ रनमा आृउट भए भने डिसुजाले ५८ रन बनाए । नेपालका अभिनाश कर्णले ३ विकेट लिए ।

अर्को सेमिफाइनलमा अफगानिस्तानले मलेशियालाई १ सय ४० रनले पराजित गरेको छ । ५० ओभरमा ८ विकेटको क्षतिमा २ सय ३३ रन बनाएको अफगानिस्तानले मलेसियालाई मात्र ९३ रनमा अलआउट गरेको थियो ।

क्रिकेटको इतिहासमा देशले बनाएको अर्को नयाँ कीर्तिमान

आईसीसी विश्व लिग डिभिजन थ्रीको उपाधि नेपालले जितेको छ । यो जीतसँगै नेपाली क्रिकेटको इतिहासमा देशले अर्को नयाँ कीर्तिमान बनाएको छ । गएराति सम्पन्न फाइनल खेलमा नेपालले युगाण्डालाई ५ विकेटले हराउँदै उपाधि उचाल्न सफल भएको हो । डिभिजन टूमा प्रवेश गरेका दुई शीर्ष टोलीबीच उपाधिको छिनाफानो गर्न भएको फाइनल खेलमा नेपालले शानदार खेल प्रस्तुत गरेको हो । डिभिजन थ्रीको दोस्रो खेलमा युगाण्डासँग हारेको नेपालले यो जीतसँगै उक्त हारको बदला पनि लिएको छ । ह्यामिल्टनमा पहिले ब्याटिङ गरेको युगाण्डाले ८ विकेटको नोक्सानीमा १ सय ५१ रन मात्र बनाउन सक्यो । युगाण्डाका ड्युस–डेडिट मुहुमुजाले २८ रन बनाए । सशक्त बलिङ्ग गरेका नेपालका बषन्त रेग्मी र राहुल विश्वकर्माले २-२ विकेट लिए । जवाफमा १ सय ५२ रनको लक्ष्य नेपालले ३९ ओभर २ बलमा ५ विकेट बाँकी छँदै पूरा गर्यो । नेपालको इनिङ्गमा धैर्यपूर्वक इनिङ्ग खेलेका प्रदिप ऐरीले ६० रन बनाए भने शरद भेषवाकरले अविजित ५० रन जोडे । यसअघिको खेलमा इटालीलाई हराएर समूह उपविजेता बन्दै नेपाल डिभिजन टूमा प्रवेश गरेको थियो । ६ राष्ट्र सम्मिलित प्रतियोगितामा शीर्ष दुई स्थान ओगट्दै युगाण्डा र नेपालले अर्को वर्ष हुने विश्वकप छनौट प्रतियोगितामा स्थान सुरक्षित गरीसकेका छन् ।
यता, सरकारले भने क्रिकेटमा ऐतिहासिक जीत दिलाउने खेलाडीलाई जनही तीन लाख ५० हजार रुपैयाँ दिने घोषणा गरेको छ । राष्ट्रिय खेलकूद परिषदको हिजो बसेको बोर्ड बैठकले टिमका सहभागि प्रत्येक सदस्यलाई उक्त रकमले पुरस्कृत गर्ने निर्णय गरेको हो ।
